Friss oder stirb (Single)
On February 9, "Friss oder Stirb" has been released, a CD with four loud songs some
of which the Hosen had already played live during their latest shows in Argentina.
This record was not intended as an appetiser for any future albums, but stands completely by itself.
"Friss oder Stirb" is the title song of the new 12" that features four new tracks and might even
count as a mini album. The three bonus tracks are "Goodbye Garageland", "Lebt wohl & danke sehr"
and "Wir sind das Volk". Friends of the classical Hosen-sound will certainly be pleased because
these tracks are rough and really go for it.
Campino: "I have the feeling that this record is very well-rounded. And I am very pleased that
it’s not just one hit and three B-sides, but four tracks that are absolutely on a par. We simply
recorded what we were working at in the rehearsals. And I have the feeling that now is not the
time for being contemplative."
When it comes to the lyrics, the maxi single takes a harsh look at the current situation in
Germany and there is also another highlight: “Goodbye Garageland” is an homage to the late
Joe Strummer, legendary singer of English band The Clash, who died last year. The lyrics for
this song, which contains quotes from old Clash-classics, were written by Campino, Vom and
Matt Dangerfield (The Boys). As such, this song presents the first co-operation of this kind
by the "British section" of the band.
Campino: "Joe Strummer was one of the true heroes. He didn’t have to toady to anyone or hold
one to the Zeitgeist of the good old days. It was great fun writing this song because Vom
finally had the chance to participate in writing the lyrics of a song. We spent two wonderful
afternoons together, with proper English tea and biscuits...".
