Biography

The Year 1993

It had been at least three years since a regular Hosen album had been unleashed upon humanity, so its was time to spend an indefinite number of days and nights in the rehearsal studio giving shape and sound to the cacophony in the band's imaginations. This is how the idea of "Kauf mich" (Buy Me) was born, itself the epitome of how to market a product. The themes were: fascism of consumerism, aids, reality TV, long-haul tourism, xenophobia. Campino commenting on the origins of the material: "After not having written a song lyric for almost three years, I just had to let all the crap out. It is the most cynical record we've ever made."

To accompany the first single from the album "Wünsch Dir Was", the Lads from Düsseldorf shot a spectacular video in miserable freezing conditions in New York, not only bringing forth superhuman performances from the video crew, but also putting the lads themselves in some pretty extreme situations as well - anyone who has had to ride the roller coaster twenty times in a row now what's meant here. After the album release it was off on tour again. From Magical Mystery Shows in front of a handful of people, via small to medium-sized club gigs, to massive stadium concerts in front of 60,000 strong crowds supporting the likes of U2 - once again the credo was - no monotony, not on any account!

Adding insult to injury the band released its first "Best of" album in the form of "Reich und Sexy". Campino explained how they came about the title of the CD: " We had thought up the title when we were making "Kauf mich". It fits the sense of fun and is just us taking the piss out of ourselves." With 20 songs taken from nine albums it was possible to convey an impression to more recent fans of what the band's earlier work sounded like. The first ever Hosen song "Wir sind Bereit" is, unsurprisingly, the among the tracks on the CD.
