Rock am Turm in Meerbusch
27.05.2004
Home game outside of the city borders: under false colours, we appeared at Wölli's
festival "Rock am Turm" as "Die Jungs von der Opel-Gang" (the Opel-gang boys) and
played a few new songs. Also, for the first time, the Cherry-Schnapps king (Wölli)
stood on stage with us again.

NEXT GENERATION MUSICIANS: Since Wölli is now organising a series of festivals
called “Rock am Turm”, which is set to supporting local music talents
from the Meerbusch area, it was a matter of fact that one day we would turn
up there, too. And although we came under cover, choosing the inconspicuous
name “Die Jungs von der Opel Gang” (Opel gang boys), the tickets
were sold out within two hours... |

INDUSTRIAL CULTURE: Having spent the past weeks in the studio, it was
double fun finally being able to play live again. And the approximately
1,000 guests seemed to enjoy the atmosphere in the former factory
building as much as we did. The Böhler plant is situated right in the
middle between Meerbusch and Düsseldorf, so it was also a real home
game for us.

MAD WORLD: Facing the club gigs in Eastern Europe and our appearance
at “Rock am Ring”, we took the opportunity and tested two new
songs off the album due to appear in the autumn, to see how they would
work on stage. We had also spontaneously put a cover version of “Mad
World” (originally by Tears for Fears) on the schedule because we’d
had to listen to it so often in the radio on our way to the studio... |

GUEST MUSICIANS: Accompanied by loud “Wölli, Wölli”-cheers,
it was the highlight of the evening when the host himself sat down behind the
drums (the first time since his car accident four years ago) and played “Opel-Gang” and “Bis
zum bitteren Ende” with us. But the “King of Cherry Schnapps” was
not the only guest in best form: no lesser than Kuddel’s 12-year-old
son Tim played the guitar for “Container-Lied”. |
